Five days to enrol to vote

Sept 11, 2005 | Media release

The Electoral Enrolment Centre is sending a last ditch message out to the tens of thousands of Kiwis not enrolled to vote that there are just five days to get enrolled.

"About 160,000 people still haven't enrolled. They only have until Friday 16 September to fill in and return and enrolment form," says Murray Wicks, National Manager of the Electoral Enrolment Centre.

"People can not enrol on election day," he says. "It's not too late to enrol but time is running it, so do it now.

"The Electoral Enrolment Centre must receive completed enrolment forms by Friday 16 September.

Mr Wicks also noted that people who hadn't received their EasyVote pack from the Chief Electoral Office in the last few days were probably not enrolled or their pack may have gone to a different address.

"If the EasyVote pack comes back as undeliverable, those people's details will be removed from the electoral roll.

"If you didn't get a pack the best bet now is to either go to a PostShop and fill in an enrolment form on the spot or fill in one online at www.elections.org.nz."

Latest figures to 31 August 2005 show 94.38% or 2.822 million people have enrolled for this year's election.

Enrolment forms are available by calling 0800 ENROL NOW (0800 36 76 56), freetexting your name and address to 3676, visiting any PostShop or going online to www.elections.org.nz.
