The Electoral Commission has released the official results for the 9 June parliamentary by-election in the Northcote electorate.

In the 2018 Northcote by-election there were:

  • 47,822 people enrolled,
  • a total of 21,012 votes cast,
  • 11,950 votes cast in advance which is 57% of all votes, and
  • 1,119 special votes, including 145 overseas votes.

The winning majority was 1,310 votes.

Voter turnout for the 2018 Northcote by-election was 44% of the 47,822 people enrolled. 

The Electoral Commission expects to return the writ showing the successful candidate on Tuesday 26 June 2018 (assuming no recounts).

Background

The official results for the 2018 Northcote by-election held on Saturday 9 June 2018 have been determined in accordance with the electoral legislation. The results are subject to any applications for judicial recounts.

The scrutiny of the rolls has been completed and the master roll for the Northcote electorate has been prepared.  All votes cast on election night have been recounted and balanced and special votes have been checked for eligibility before being counted. This has been done in the presence of a Justice of the Peace.
