The Electoral Commission has released the preliminary results for the 9 June 2018 parliamentary by-election in the Northcote electorate.

The preliminary results are based on the 19,900 ordinary votes counted on election night.

Special declaration votes still to be counted are estimated to be 1,105 (5.3% of total votes).  This includes an estimated 140 overseas votes.

The total estimated votes (those counted on election night plus estimated special votes to be counted) are 21,005.

Voter turnout for the 2018 Northcote by-election is estimated to be 43.7% of the 48,077 enrolled prior to election day.

For the first time in a parliamentary election, more votes were taken during the advance voting period than on election day. An estimated 57% of votes were cast in advance.

The preliminary results, including results by voting place, are available at www.electionresults.govt.nz.

The Official Results process starts tomorrow Sunday 10 June and is expected to be completed by Wednesday 20 June.  All votes counted on election night will be recounted. Special declaration votes will be processed and counted.  The target to release the Official Results for the Northcote by-election is Wednesday 20 June.
